Content

An introduction to information technology strategy and management considerations including: governance models for organisational IS, processes of strategy formulation and implementation, current issues in IT management, quality assurance, modern management and planning strategies, equity and ethical issues relating to or resulting from IT.

Learning objectives

To develop an understanding of the role of strategic management of IT, particularly in relation to evaluating emerging technology and trends and adopting a critical approach to strategic decisions.

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Describe strategic management issues associated with corporate use of computer-based information systems
  • Propose strategies for managing IT in private and public sector organisations that respond to emerging technologies and business opportunities
  • Discuss the strategic role of IT in an organisation and its alignment with business objectives
  • Review trends in the organisational use of IS that affect IS policy development
  • Evaluate strategic management proposals and implementation
  • Identify human resource, equity and ethical issues in the management of Information Technology and Systems
