Content

Growing global demand for software and increasing globalization of software production result in ever more globally distributed software development projects. Collaboration has become more sophisticated due to distributed resources, restricted means of communication and less informal coordination mechanisms. This project deals with the collaborative development of a software application in a real world setting.

Paricipants will apply state of the art software engineering methods and tools in small teams in order to understand and manage particular issues of distributed settings. The teams develop a software solution for a real world problem of an industry partner (simfy.de, an online music streaming service). The teams use collaborative technologies for communication and project management. Tasks are e.g.: requirements negotiation, coding, project management, presentations.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the difficulties involved in distributed software development
  • Experience the difficulties in a practical setting
  • Learn how to deal with the challenges in distributed software development
  • Improve software engineering skills
  • Improve the ability to work in teams
  • Use state of the art software engineering methods and tools
